Had very less expectation to find a place serving good idlis in Mumbai. And, it was almost true. In my short visit to Mumbai, I had limited time to find a place which serves idli during breakfast hours as I can't survive without it thanks to Chennai.
Found a place called Shiv Sagar in Vile Parle East in Mumbai. It's 5 minutes away from the domestic airport. They serve several types of idlis namely Steam Idli, Sambhar Idli, Kanchipuram Idli, etc.
Ordered a plate of Kanchipuram Idli (80.00 rupees). It came tucked in round-cut banana leaves. Refer the snap below. It had proper tampering of turmeric, mustered seeds and a lot of cashew nuts.
Though the Idli was good in comparison to the same in Chennai @ Grand Sweets and Snacks on Arcot road, the coconut and tomato chutneys were okay-okay. Till date, I haven't found a place that is not one of the Dravidian states and also makes coconut chutney using freshly grated coconut. Tomato chutney was bland. Sambhar was sweet. What else can I say about it!
Service was fast. Offered generous refills.
