Idli | Chennai | Saravana Bhavan | Part 1

If you are not familiar about Idli, please visit the wikipedia page about Idli - Wikipedia page on Idli.

One of the reasons why I chose to move to Chennai is because of my love for Idlis. Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is an indian metropolis and situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Chennai is undeniably the best place to enjoy Idli in the world. In this series, I will be posting my views about Idlis available at famous and also at not-so-famous restaurants in Chennai. First is, the Hotel Saravana Bhavan (HSB).

Overview: HSB is the biggest vegetarian restaurant chain in the world and headquartered nowhere but in namma Chennai. HSB has restaurants in many countries like USA, UK, France, Germany, UAE and obviously (25+ locations) in India.
Service: Quick, clean, polished. 5/5.
Price: Rs. 30/- for 1 plate idli.
Idli: 1 plate Idli will give you two soft Idlis. Idlis @ HSB are little bit grainy because I think they use not completely milled rice grains. If you end up visiting HSB at odd time (non-breakfast or non-evening snack time) then you may not like the Idlis as they won't be freshly delivered from the giant Idli cooker.
Chutney: Two very good chutneys - Coconut and Coriander. Passable red podi+oil and onion+tomato masala. They don't offer generous re-fills.
Sambhar: Thick and tasty. Always hot.
Location: Perhaps each sub-area of Chennai has an HSB branch.
